A day dedicated to political cartoons, with panels, workshops, debates, and the Award Ceremony of the European Cartoon Award 2025!

A decade has passed since the horrific terrorist attack on the headquarters of the French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo. Today, we find ourselves asking: What has changed in our perception of satire, free speech, and the role of political cartoons in society? Let’s explore this together!
What to expect
The ECA Cartoons Day is lively, interactive, full of ideas and full of cartoons:
- Panels & Debates: Engage with leading cartoonists, journalists, and thinkers on themes like press freedom, satire in democracy, and the future of editorial cartoons.
- Workshops: Get hands-on and learn techniques, approaches, or concept development in cartooning.
- Artist Talkbacks: See how cartoonists conceive, sketch, and critique — and ask your burning questions.
- A documentary screening: a first for this festival! We will show the VRT documentary 10 jaar #JeSuisCharlie, and then we will discuss it with a few amazing cartoonists.
- Award Ceremony: The highlight of the day — the European Cartoon Award 2025 will honour the most provocative, insightful, and impactful cartoons of the year.
- Evening Reception: Celebrate with the community, meet fellow creatives, and soak in the energy of satire in action.
